As part of the GPI Michigan State University (MSU) student programme’s annual visit to UK print and packaging companies, the event allowed students to interact with prototypes and samples innovated at the site. They were exposed to GPI’s working practices and gained beneficial access to industry leaders.

The event marked the 39th annual UK visit for the MSU student programme and GPI Bardon’s 4th hosting, and was described by the UK coordinator of the event and Packaging Consultant and Chairman of the Packaging Society, Keith Barnes, as ‘‘an illuminating visit’’ in which ‘‘students were shown everything in great detail.’’

Rakhee Karia, European Marketing Manager at GPI added: ‘‘It’s important for us at GPI to support talented students in shaping the future of the packaging industry. Their enthusiasm, innovation and insight are invaluable in helping us to evolve with the consumer.’’

‘‘The visits are an ideal opportunity for students to contextualise their learning, and our Global Innovation Centre is the perfect environment for demonstrating the journey from product inception to execution. We’re sure they found the day as rewarding as we did.’’

The students witnessed demonstrations of GPI’s machinery, including the Zünd S3 M800 plotter which cuts, creases and scores the company’s cartonboard solutions and the embossing and finishing capabilities of the Roland DG Versa UV LEC-540 printer, gaining first-hand experience of the company’s operations.

GPI is committed to supporting students in packaging design and sponsors educational initiatives across the sector such as the Student Starpack Awards to encourage young people to pursue careers in the sector. The company also offers apprenticeship and university placement schemes to help develop future potential.
