Winners Semih Arslan, Istanbul Technical University, and Marie Falk, Brobygrafiska, joined GPI from 29 January to 2 February at its Bardon, Leicestershire headquarters to gain hands-on experience of every aspect of the packaging supply chain. Rakhee Karia, GPI European Marketing Manager, said “It was a pleasure to welcome Semih and Marie to GPI and to share valuable insights into the packaging journey, from inception through to design, production, marketing and delivery. Semih and Marie both started their journeys into packaging design with a desire to retrain. They’re proof that it’s never too late for manufacturers to educate new talent about exactly what the industry has to offer in terms of careers.”
The winners observed and got involved in the whole packaging production process, touring GPI’s world-class Bardon factory and Global Innovation Centre. From reprographics and marketing to conceptual, technical and structural design, the training provided real-world exposure and enabled the winners to produce their own creative concepts.
The Pro Carton Young Designers Award celebrates innovation and excellence in packaging design, providing young talent with professional recognition and an industry networking platform to help kick-start promising careers.
Roland Rex, Pro Carton President, added “While the packaging industry offers excellent career opportunities, its benefits are widely unrecognised. It is vital that talented young people are made aware of all that packaging has to offer and GPI’s delivery of practical training truly sets the example to the wider industry.”
